Qatar Duty Free hosts Middle East debut for The Balvenie Tun 1401

The Balvenie Tun 1401 is a Middle East regional exclusive

Qatar Duty Free this month launched The Balvenie Tun 1401 as a Middle East regional exclusive. The retailer said that the malts category was “one of the fastest growing sections at Qatar Duty Free” and that it was working closely with brands to ensure a broad range of whiskies was available.

Tun 1401 takes its name from the traditional oak marrying tun in which the aged whisky was married. Marrying tun 1401 is found inside the Balvenie Distillery’s Warehouse 24 and is cared for by the distillery’s on-site team of coopers.

Malt Master David Stewart transferred whisky from specially selected and rare casks to the small marrying tun from which the single malt takes its name – before the liquid was left to rest for several months before bottling. The single malt is said to be characterised by “luxurious honey, delicate spice and oak” flavours.

Qatar Duty Free is expanding some of its key retail areas including liquor, fragrances, watches and cigars, to accommodate rapid passenger growth before the move to the new Doha International Airport towards the end of this year. The newly expanded sections are being planned to accommodate additional assortments, introduce new brands and facilitate an improved passenger flow.
