Pure Gold has extended its regional portfolio to Amman Airport

JORDAN. Pure Gold Jewellers has made its retailing debut at Amman Queen Alia International Airport, after striking a deal with duty free concessionaire World Duty Free Group to manage the gold and diamond jewellery business.

Pure Gold Jewellers Chairman Firoz Merchant said: “With a diverse blend of offerings, Jordan Duty Free is one of the best performing duty frees in the region. Passengers passing through Jordan International Airport can now choose from our extensive range of gold, diamond, pearls and gemstones jewellery in the latest styles and best prices.

“This is in line with our vision of becoming the leading jeweller in the travel retail sector in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. We aim to open over 25 duty free locations across the world within a short span of time. We are currently also in talks with [duty free companies in] Qatar, Egypt, Malaysia, Maldives and Sri Lanka, to name a few.”

Duty free in the Middle East is a key area of business for Pure Gold Jewellers, with around 6% of the company’s revenue coming from travel retail. The company is the sole concessionaire for precious jewellery at Abu Dhabi Duty Free (all three terminals), Muscat Duty Free, Kuwait Duty Free and it also supplies Dubai Duty Free.

The company also announced a +52% increase in its revenues at Muscat Duty Free for the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.

Merchant said: “We continue to see a strong growth in our operations at Muscat Duty Free. Our wide range of precious jewellery has been a hit with passengers and we constantly strive to offer the best collection of trendy jewellery at guaranteed low prices and the best customer service, which reflects in our increased sales.”

Recently, Pure Gold Jewellers also announced an increase of over +25% in sales at Abu Dhabi Duty Free for the first half of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011.
