CHINA. China Duty Free Group (CDFG) has entered into a joint venture to expand its duty free retail operations into Cambodia – its first business venture beyond Greater China.
中国。中国免税品（集团）有限责任公司（以下简称”中免集团”）已签订一项合资协议，意欲通过建立合资公司，进军柬埔寨免税零售市场。该合资公司被认为是中免集团在大中华区之外的首家子公司。
The retailer signed an agreement with Beijing Huachao Asset Management in July, with the two companies investing a joint US$2 million to register China Duty Free Group (Cambodia) in Phnom Penh, with the aim of establishing and operating duty free shops in the country.
中免集团已于7月与北京华超联合资产管理有限公司签署了一项合资合作协议，两家公司将在柬埔寨金边市共同投资200万美元，注册成立中国免税品集团（柬埔寨）有限公司，负责柬埔寨免税店项目的建设与经营。
Parent company CITS Group described the initiative as a big step for CDFG’s internationalisation strategy. And it suggested that the venture would primarily explore opportunities for downtown duty free stores.
中免集团母公司国旅集团公布了这一新合作消息，并表示此举意味着中免集团在海外业务拓展上迈出了关键性的一步。此次合资合作还为中免集团的市区免税店业务创造了更多商机。

The company said: “The Cambodia project will not only expand CDFG’s overseas markets and increase awareness and influence in Southeast Asia; it will also help CDFG to gain overseas management and operation experience in downtown duty free and other travel retail businesses, and to improve its purchasing and retailing capabilities.”

As revealed last year in China Duty Free Group: Travel Retail’s Rising Star, a special publication by Moodie Corporate, CDFG has been in negotiations with potential partners in several countries – including Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines – with a view to expanding its international business.

The retailer already operates a ship supply business in Taiwan (CDF Taiwan Supply Co) as well as an offshore duty free shop there in partnership with Golden Palais Co. And CDF (Macao) Co, established in January 2011, is developing duty free stores at Taipa Temporary Maritime Ferry Terminal and Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal.

As revealed by The Moodie Report in February this year, CDFG has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Star Cruises – owned by Genting Hong Kong – to develop the cruiseline’s duty free retail business.

The CDFG (Cambodia) agreement was signed in Beijing on 19 July by CITS Group Corporation Vice President and CDFG Chairman and General Manager Peng Hui, CDFG Deputy General Manager Chen Jianshan, and Beijing Huachao United Asset Management General Manager Zhang Shaowen.
国旅股份公司副总裁、中免集团董事长及总经理彭辉、党委书记及副总经理陈建山，以及北京华超联合资产管理有限公司总经理张绍文已于7月19日在北京正式签订此项协议。
