UAE. Dubai Duty Free has announced first quarter sales of US$479.5 million, a +10% increase over the same period last year.
Sales across all three terminals showed an upward trend, including a +23% increase in Terminal 2 and a +11% increase in sales in Terminal 3.
Fragrances, liquor and gold remained the top three categories by sales; fragrance sales reached US$78.5 million, up by +16%.

Other categories showing robust growth included cosmetics, up by +30% to US$38.7 million. Handbags and small leather goods rose by +62% to US$6.9 million, while Gifts From Dubai rose by +9% to US$9 million.
Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin said: “We have had a very good start to the year and are very much on track for our sales forecast of AED7 billion (US$1.92 billion). Terminal 3 continues to be the biggest in terms of accumulative sales and accounts for 62% of our total turnover.

“The expansion and upgrade of T2 late last year has provided us with an opportunity to extend our product range and boost sales in T2, which accounts for 8.3% of our total revenue and is growing. The last phase of that development will be opening of a new Arrivals shop in T2 which will help grow sales further.”
Dubai Duty Free said it will seek to enhance its retail operation in 2014 while continuing to plan for the opening of Concourse D next year.
The retailer is also continuing its busy events and promotional calendar, including the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at the Newbury Racecourse on 11-12 April.
