Maui Jim updates retro sunglasses range with MauiPure lens technology

Maui Jim will introduce three new retro styles and extend its range of sunglasses for outdoor activities during next week’s TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition in Singapore (stand number: K9).

The three new retro styles feature MauiPure lenses, claimed to be the world’s clearest non-glass lenses that are lightweight and scratch- and impact-resistant. According to Maui Jim, they are the lightest lens material in the company’s portfolio and are optically clear.

The lightweight frame of Legends is designed for smaller to midsize faces

Breakers (US$219 RRP) – inspired by 1970s motorcycle design, this double-bridged, high-grade aviator has a lightweight frame with spring hinges on the temples to hug the face and a saddle-style nose bridge with embedded rubber pads for added stability. The line features Maui Jim PolarizedPlus2 lens technology and bi-gradient mirrors that offer added sun protection at the top and bottom of each lens. The style, recommended for midsize to large faces, is available in Matte Black with Neutral Grey lenses; Matte Tortoise with HCL Bronze lenses; and Translucent Dark Grey with Maui HT lenses.

Legends (US$259 RRP) – designed for smaller to midsize faces, this vintage style offers lightweight acetate sunglasses with a “movie-star look” of squared-off shape and distinctive temples. Anti-corrosive spring hinges keep the sunglasses secure and the fixed nose bridge works with wider noses; its MauiPure lenses also feature bi-gradient mirrors.

Honomanu (US$309 RRP) – the classic 1970s teardrop shape of an oversized metal aviator is updated in an ultra-light pure titanium frame in Gloss Black and Neutral Grey lenses or Antique Gold with Tortoise and HCL Bronze lenses. The nose bridge is adjustable for maximum comfort, the lenses feature MauiGradient tinting and Honomanu is said to suit a range of face sizes.

Maui Jim will also add to its collection of 112 sunglasses designed for a range of outdoor activities. The two new styles are similar in design but sized for larger or smaller faces.

Kipahulu is a full-frame nylon style that “˜wraps’ for maximum sun protection

Spartan Reef (US$229 RRP) and Kipahulu (US$229 RRP) are full-frame nylon styles that “˜wrap’ for maximum sun protection. Spartan Reef is sized for larger faces while Kipahulu fits small to mid-size faces.

Both feature ST (SuperThin) Glass lenses that are said to offer clear, undistorted views and are 20% lighter and thinner than conventional glass lenses. Both styles also come in Gloss Black with Neutral Grey lenses; Matte Tortoise Rubber with HCL Bronze lenses and Marlin with HCL Bronze lenses.

According to Maui Jim its lenses are packed with up to nine layers of PolarizedPlus2 lens technology, which has received the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation because the technology cuts 99.9% of glare and eliminates 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

Maui Jim’s sunglasses are “recognised as safe and effective sun protection and are an important part of an effective defence programme against skin cancers of the eye and eyelids”, the company said. MauiPure lenses are protected with waterproof and oleophobic coatings to shed water and snow and to repel grease and smudges, it added.
