Liquor & tobacco (managed by DFS) and fragrances & cosmetics (Shilla) remained the two most popular product categories at Changi Airport, followed by luxury goods, consumer electronics and confectionery.
Online shopping on iShopChangi.com also saw healthy growth. Traffic to the portal doubled during the year compared to visits recorded in 2014, with sales increasing by four times. The product range has also been expanded to seven categories since its launch in 2013, offering more than 6,000 items. Beauty products, electronics and wines & spirits were the most popular items.
Changi Airport Group Executive Vice President of Commercial Lim Peck Hoon said: “We are delighted to achieve yet another record high for concession sales at Changi Airport in 2015. This is positive for the Singapore air hub as profits from our retail business help to offset the cost of our aeronautical operations.”
She added: “In 2015, we continued to execute a successful commercial strategy, which saw the introduction of innovative concepts evident in our liquor and beauty duplex stores and the launch of many first-in-Changi brands. At the same time, exciting promotions like the Stars Wars plushies during the holiday period and Changi Millionaire have contributed to the retail buzz and made shopping that more fun and rewarding at Changi.”
As reported this week, the six-month “˜Be a Changi Millionaire’ promotion attracted two million entries. The annual campaign offers the biggest cash prize (S$1 million) to be given away in a Singapore retail promotion. The grand prize was won on Sunday by Irish woman Linda Tobin.
