In this issue, the spotlight falls on Snowberry, a fascinating New Zealand natural skincare brand which was launched into global travel retail launch just eight days ago.
The Moodie Davitt Report Chairman Martin Moodie was on location in his native land as brand owner P&G and Lagardère Travel Retail-owned Aelia Duty Free launched Snowberry into the channel at Auckland Airport. Both parties have high hopes for Snowberry’s success, believing that it ticks key consumer boxes in an age of acute environmental awareness and concern.
In this edition, Moodie relates the compelling narrative of Snowberry – the brainchild of a Persian immigrant to New Zealand, a trained cosmetician named Soraya Hendesi. As a child, Ms Hendesi would spend hours creating her own beauty potions made with flowers, leaves and berries that grew abundantly in the family garden in Tehran.
Decades later, she would again find herself creating natural beauty products from home-grown products, this time though based on native ingredients taken sustainably from the land in the beautiful north of New Zealand. Many of her learnings based on rongoā, the traditional medicine of the native Māori people. Those ingredients came from a stunning 22-hectare estate north of Auckland acquired by Ms Hendesi and her husband Mark Henderson in 2006. They dubbed it Snowberry Gardens.
Moodie talks to P&G Global Skin Care President Markus Strobel and Ms Hendesi about how a 2018 marriage between an entrepreneurial enterprise and a multi-national powerhouse came about; the principles of that marriage; and both partners’ aspirations for it.
