INTERNATIONAL. The Moodie Davitt Report is encouraging the travel retail industry worldwide to today (31 March) applaud the work of the medical community worldwide – especially the doctors, nurses and other frontline staff involved in helping the world deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Moodie Davitt Report team will be joining forces at 12noon (UK time) to applaud the Spanish health workers who tried so hard, though sadly in vain, to save the life of Ramon Revilla, father of our Publisher Irene Revilla.
Don’t forget to send photos or video clips from your home, office, store or airport to Hannah@MoodieDavittReport.com.
Such individual initiatives have taken place in several countries, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Uruguay, the UK and China.
Inés Sisto Patrón from the South American Duty Free Association ASUTIL in Uruguay told The Moodie Davitt Report today that starting last Thursday and every night since then at 9p.m, the people of the country go out on their balconies or into their gardens and clap in honour of the doctors, nurses and others who are in contact with the coronavirus in a daily basis.

The video below, courtesy of Chinese state-controlled media Global Times, shows the thunderous welcome that many of those medics received when they left the city, with the outbreak increasingly under control. It offers an enduring testament to the power of the human spirit and the courage of the medical community on whom our lives depend all around the world.
Clap for our Carers – Travel Retail asks members of the travel retail community, whether at home in isolation or at work in offices, downtown stores or at airports, (which many still are) to join a worldwide 30-second burst of applause on Tuesday, 31 March. The timing is up to individuals and companies.
To help spread the message of goodwill, The Moodie Davitt Report is asking that members of the travel retail community share the message with us and on their own messaging platforms and social media, using the hashtag #ClapforourCarersTravelRetail
The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie said: “The travel retail community globally depends on medical staff worldwide for both our livelihoods and, ultimately, our lives. The extraordinary courage being shown by frontline health personnel and volunteers, all of whom are exposing themselves to risk, is inspirational. While there have been many heart-warming expressions of appreciation for that work in individual countries, this will be the first time that a whole business sector worldwide has participated.
“We encourage all members of the great travel retail family wherever you are – in self-isolation, at work, in an airport – to join us on Tuesday in giving thanks to those who are dedicated to saving lives while risking theirs. Please promote the initiative within your company, colleagues and workforce.
“We hope, too, that some of the benefits that this industry sometimes offers to military service personnel (discounted offers, free coffees etc) might also be extended to frontline medical staff now and over coming months as the crisis eases.”
