The Bookshop by WHSmith to reopen at Aberdeen Airport after 18-month closure

UK. The Bookshop by WHSmith will reopen at Aberdeen International Airport on 2 September after being closed for almost 18 months due to the pandemic. The store was originally opened as part of the airport’s £20 million Terminal Transformation in 2018.

It offers a wide range of books, including airport exclusive editions, trade and specialist titles. WHSmith’s main airside store traded throughout the pandemic with the landside arrivals store reopening in May this year.

The Bookshop joins a growing list of other stores that have resumed trading despite continuing uncertainty over the recovery of travel

The Bookshop reopening adds to the list of outlets that are welcoming back passengers at Aberdeen International Airport. Among the latest, earlier this month, was a Costa Coffee café landside, the first to be managed by WHSmith at the airport. Other stores now trading once more include World Duty Free, Boots, Distilling House, Northern Lights Lounge and Discover Aberdeen.

Aberdeen International Airport Commercial Manager Jemma Cumming said: “We know the WHSmith Bookshop is very popular with our passengers. We have been continuously working with our business partners and I’m delighted to see this store reopening at our airport. This allows us to offer passengers more choice throughout our airport while maintaining their safety.”

Aberdeen Airport was recognised for its good practice recently with an international Covid-safety audit from the UK Civil Aviation Authority and health experts from Public Health England and Scotland.
