AUSTRALIA. Today’s choice of images comes from Lagardère AWPL, which is celebrating its win at the 2023 Cairns Airport Recognition Award.
The travel retailer’s corporate social responsibility initiatives earned it the Excellence in Environment, Social & Governance Award.
Through Lagardère’s PEPS (planet, ethics, people, social) programme, it introduced a series of CSR efforts in Cairns.
Among its most notable initiatives are the ‘Ban the Bag’ campaign in 2018, which now continues across its network; onboarding more than 30 vendors from the region to support and promote local products; focusing on its people through engagement tools and activities leading to a local engagement rate of 76%; and raising A$3,400 (US$2,200) this year to support Canteen Australia’s leadership programmes.
More than 100 social responsibility initiatives have been rolled out under the PEPS programme across a scope of topics, from reducing the energy consumption of its operations to supporting charities.
The PEPS programme was also recognised as the Sustainability and Environment Initiative of the Year at the 2023 Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) + Hospitality Conference and Awards in Bangkok. ✈
