Lagardère Travel Retail secures 12-year retail & dining concession at Techo International Airport

CAMBODIA. Lagardère Travel Retail, in partnership with HSC Group, has signed a 12-year contract with Cambodia Airport Investment Company (CAIC) to manage retail and dining operations at Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh.

Scheduled to open in 2025 the airport is expected to become Cambodia’s primary gateway, enhancing the country’s global connectivity.

This agreement marks a key milestone in Lagardère Travel Retail’s Asia expansion strategy. It is the first time the company will operate all three business lines in a greenfield country.

The contract also seals Lagardère Travel Retail’s inaugural direct operation in Asia duty-free and the first profit-sharing model implemented by the group in Asia Pacific.

The decision to award the Techo International Airport concession to the Lagardère Travel Retail and HSC Group consortium marks the beginning of a commercial partnership.

As part of this collaboration, Lagardère Travel Retail will oversee duty free & fashion, foodservice and travel essentials, leveraging the downtown expertise of its local partner HSC in these domains.

The 34 new outlets at Techo International Airport will occupy a total floor space of 6,500sq m, supplementing Lagardère Travel Retail’s existing portfolio of over 500 stores across Asia. These outlets will showcase a selection of top international, regional and local brands.

The contract operates on a profit-sharing model, marking a transformative approach in the travel retail industry.

This model fosters a genuine partnership between operator and airport, showcasing CAIC’s innovative approach as the region’s first landlord to implement it. Over the 12-year term, its flexibility allows for experimentation with new brands, products and technologies.

The lineup of exclusive outlets will include premium offerings such as the duty-free Aelia store, food hall Marché and innovative hybrid concepts. These include the EL&N café, known for its trendy pop-ups, and ‘Le Connoisseur’ store, offering fine dining, liquor and tobacco.

Additionally, globally recognised concepts such as Relay and Discover, in partnership with Monument Books, will further enhance the diverse range of stores.

Lagardère Travel Retail also plans to introduce an ecommerce strategy and immersive digital experiences, aligning with Techo International Airport’s vision.

Lagardère Travel Retail Asia COO & Chief Strategy and Development Officer Séverine Lanthier said: “This agreement opens new horizons for our operations in Asia and I am deeply grateful to our teams and partners who support us in writing this new chapter.

“I am convinced that through our unique profit-sharing model and the dedication of our teams we will raise retail and food services for South Asian and international travellers to the next level.”

CAIC Director Oknha Charles Vann remarked: “Through our collaboration with Lagardère Travel Retail and HSC Group, we anticipate significant added value for frequent flyers travelling to and from Phnom Penh.

“The expertise and international network from which travellers will benefit will position Cambodia as a key player in the Asian regional scene.”

This agreement marks the ongoing expansion of Lagardère Travel Retail’s global footprint and its commitment to developing multiple business activities, maximising the operational and commercial value delivered to landlords and brands. ✈
