‘Speaking to women’s hearts’ – Yalea reveals Frida Kahlo-inspired Capsule collection

Inspired by Frida Kahlo: Yalea introduces its latest Capsule eyewear collection

De Rigo house brand Yalea has unveiled a Capsule eyewear collection inspired by Frida Kahlo, one of the world’s most admired and celebrated artists. The Mexican artist, who passed away in 1954, succeeded in leaving her mark not only for her art but also for her unique and iconic style.

Yalea is an all-female eyewear brand, with styles designed and produced with women in mind. Since its debut Yalea has wanted to “tell the story of women by supporting their freedom of choice, encouraging their talent and promoting their beauty as individuals”.

Yalea has created four new models that echo its distinctive style and aesthetic. According to the brand, the choice of materials, sophisticated design and close attention to detail distinguish this collection that “speaks to women’s hearts”.

“Like Frida Kahlo, it redefines the concepts of femininity and wants to inspire generations of women to pursue authenticity, personal strength and active participation in society,” Yalea added.

The brand noted how Kahlo suffered physically but loved life fiercely, especially the world of nature and that of her home country, bringing it all to life in a naïve but energetic way through her canvases.

Her use of aesthetic details and harmony of shapes is reflected in the Yalea Capsule collection, which combines visuals with quality materials and precision manufacturing techniques. Details include the reproduction of Kahlo’s emblematic eyebrows on the bridge of some frames, emphasising her personal choice of style – an act of rebellion against the cultural and social expectations of women.

The names of two of the collection’s sunglasses and two prescription styles also echo the artist: Beautiful, Rebel, Unique and Strong.

The colour palette is intense and bold with black, dark grey and white combined with strong brushstrokes of yellow, red, purple, dark green, aubergine and pink. The colours balance with colour-blocks and transparencies, chosen, according to Yalea, to enhance and frame the wearer’s face.

The Yalea Capsule collection packaging also offers a tribute to Kahlo’s work and the symbols that represent her art, with flowers on the two ribbons framing the black boxes symbolising the strength and courage that continues to influence the contemporary world.

The collection includes sunglasses with a low, geometric front piece and  transparent temples with customised core. The temple tips on the Beautiful and Rebel styles are emblematic of the collection’s peculiarity: on the left the Yalea paddle with monogram logo, and on the right Kahlo’s paintbrush.

Both are available in three versions: Basic with a flower pattern on the core; ‘V’ with an external flower; and ‘W’ with a flower on the temple, enriched by the unibrow symbol on the front piece. ✈
