AUSTRIA. Gebr. Heinemann has expanded its main Terminal 1 store at Vienna Airport from 1,200sq m to around 2,000sq m. The company said it now offers the “largest travel retail experience in Austria”.
The additional space allows for an expanded product range to offer categories that are in growing demand, said the retailer. These include sunglasses, leathergoods, sneakers and niche fragrances. The offering can be quickly and flexibly adapted to the needs of travellers, Heinemann added.
Regional products such as Mozartkugeln, Manner waffles, original Sachertorte and Viennese wine are offered in a wider selection thanks to the additional space. Newly available are fashion brands such as Steve Madden and Michael Kors as well as perfume and cosmetics brands such as Armani Privé, Creed and Kérastase.
The store design is based on the market stalls at Vienna’s Naschmarkt. A flexible furniture system allows for quick changes without having to replace furniture. Digital elements such as the Lift & Learn Wine Screen and a Scent Table offer a modern shopping experience.
On the west side of the plaza is a video wall around 13m high and 7m wide. Brands including Steve Madden are staged on the wall in an immersive and eye-catching way. Directly in front is a promotional area where the products are also presented.
Director Sales Christoph Stump said: “We are proud to be able to offer our customers an even wider and more exclusive range of products. The expansion of the store is an important step towards further improving the shopping experience at Vienna Airport.
“Our aim is to be a valuable travel companion for travelers and to surprise and inspire them again and again with our spectacular assortment.”
Vienna Airport Joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger added: “Vienna Airport recorded exceptional numbers this summer. With the growing traffic, it remains our goal to provide all travellers with a first-class experience and a pleasant stay. This also includes the continuous enhancement of the shopping offerings.
“The new duty-free shop has been very successful in this regard: more brand variety, a stronger regional assortment, more fashion and accessories, and a modern, inviting atmosphere. The reopening is another milestone in our long-standing, successful partnership with Gebr. Heinemann. It underscores our commitment to positioning Vienna Airport as a five-star airport in the long term.”
Gebr. Heinemann has been operating stores at Vienna Airport since 2003 and now has nine stores spanning 4,800sq m. The company will also open a 3,200 m store when the south extension of the airport opens in 2027. The partnership between Vienna Airport and Gebr. Heinemann has been extended until 2034. ✈
