Harrison Ford lends star power to Glenmorangie latest limited-edition release

The Harrison Ford Limited Edition extends Glenmorangie’s Once Upon a Time in Scotland campaign with the actor and brings the special collaboration into travel retail via a range of airport experiences

Moët Hennessy Travel Retail has launched the Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited Edition in partnership with the acclaimed US actor. Bottled at 46.5% ABV, the expression launched on 4 May across selected travel retail locations worldwide.

Moët Hennessy Travel Retail is rolling out dedicated activation spaces that showcase the story behind the release through immersive Scottish Highlands-inspired environments. The experiences combine brand storytelling with cocktail-inspired serves and liquid to lips sampling opportunities, offering consumers a multi-sensory introduction to the new expression.

The limited edition was created in collaboration with Harrison Ford, a long-time Glenmorangie single malt whisky enthusiast, alongside Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden MBE.

Ford is famous for legendary roles such as Han Solo in Star Wars, the titular Indiana Jones and Rick Deckard in Blade Runner.

Rather than serving as a celebrity-endorsed expression, the whisky was developed around Ford’s own flavour preferences following his appearance in Glenmorangie’s Once Upon a Time in Scotland campaign.

The whisky combines classic Glenmorangie matured in bourbon casks with a rare selection of spirit finished in toasted Portuguese red wine casks. The resulting expression offers zesty citrus notes complemented by muscovado sugar, apricot and butter candy, followed by a long finish featuring orange oil, leather and oak tannins.

The collaboration stems from Ford’s visit to the Glenmorangie Distillery during the filming of Once Upon a Time in Scotland. During the visit, Dr Lumsden introduced the actor to a range of cask samples to explore his flavour preferences.

Over subsequent months, whisky samples were exchanged between Scotland and the United States, with the final recipe refined jointly by Ford and Dr Lumsden.

The whisky is featured in a new instalment of Once Upon a Time in Scotland, directed by Joel Edgerton and filmed in Ford’s home state of Wyoming. In the film, Ford reflects on his experience at the Highland distillery before tasting the finished whisky for the first time, concluding with the understated verdict: “It’s nice. It’s very nice.”

Harrison Ford said: “I loved my time at Glenmorangie and have enormous respect for the team at the distillery. They are true craftspeople. Collaborating with Dr Bill was a real treat – a chance to get inside the mind of a maker who combines art and science to create incredible single malt Scotch whisky.

“We tasted many casks together on our search for a Glenmorangie that would speak to my taste. Truth be told, I liked a lot of them – but the Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited Edition is everything I want in a whisky. I’m immensely proud of our creation. I hope you enjoy it. I certainly do.”

Dr Bill Lumsden said: “We knew Harrison was a whisky lover even before he arrived at Glenmorangie – so I was thrilled to make him an honorary member of our Whisky Creation Team as we went about creating his very own whisky. In keeping with our signature style – and Harrison’s – the Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited Edition is very elegant, and smooth. But since Harrison also likes his whisky with a little bite, we layered classic bourbon casks with the tang and structure of toasted Portuguese red wine casks.”
