CNSC refreshes visual identity as it enters next growth phase

CNSC’s refreshed logo gives ‘国免’ (the company’s Chinese brand name) a more prominent place in the brand

CHINA. Sinopharm Group’s travel retail arm, China National Service Corporation (CNSC), has unveiled a modernised logo as part of a strategic move to align with the government’s consumption-driven growth agenda and strengthen its market positioning.

The rebrand coincides with the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, marking a key milestone in CNSC’s drive to elevate brand quality, foster sustainable growth and reinforce its role as a state-owned enterprise, the company noted.

The new visual identity makes ‘国免’ (Guo Mian/CNSC’s Chinese brand name) a prominent logo element, enhancing brand recognition and aligning the company’s name more closely with its visual identity for the first time since 2022.

The characters ‘国免’ stand on four strategic pillars:

National duty-free retailer: As China’s first company to be granted a duty-free licence, CNSC plays a key role in advancing China’s broader opening-up strategy.

A duty-free retailer for the Chinese consumer: Having historically been the only retailer licensed to operate downtown travel retail stores for Chinese consumers, CNSC continues to make duty-free shopping more accessible while strengthening customer loyalty.

A Sinopharm company: As Sinopharm Group’s travel retail platform, CNSC is committed to supporting healthier, better lifestyles while drawing on its retail expertise and the credibility of a centrally administered state-owned enterprise to build lasting consumer trust.

Global standards: Guided by a global outlook, CNSC is building a vision that connects domestic and international markets and extends its reach worldwide.

Together, the four pillars create a unified strategic framework that builds on CNSC’s state-owned foundation, serves domestic consumers and supports its evolution into a more globally oriented business.

The ‘国免’ lettering is styled in a traditional Chinese seal-carving motif, reflecting CNSC’s state-owned identity and focus on service quality.

A modern identity with traditional roots

The ‘C’ takes shape within a lattice-window motif, combining a traditional design reference with symbolism of CNSC’s role in connecting China with global markets

The refreshed identity retains CNSC’s signature shopping bag, a recognisable visual element developed over more than four decades and closely associated with its long-standing travel retail presence.

Building on its established identity, the new logo reinterprets the familiar shopping bag as an ‘open window’, reflecting CNSC’s role in connecting China with the global market.

The retailer emphasised its role in supporting China’s market opening, domestic consumption and inbound tourism over more than four decades as the country’s first nationwide state-owned travel retail company, while now extending its focus to consumer wellbeing and premium retail.

The logo refresh marks a broader shift in the company’s development strategy, brand vision and values, CNSC said.

Looking ahead, CNSC plans to strengthen its core duty-free business, expand partnerships with premium global suppliers and improve the consumer experience.

Within the dual-circulation framework, the company aims to support consumption growth, enhance industry efficiency and contribute to China’s opening-up strategy.
