The expansive Terminal 2 departures store adds another retail touchpoint at Fuzhou Changle Airport, bringing global brands together with local specialities

CHINA. Our latest image selection comes courtesy of Sinopharm Group’s travel retail arm China National Service Corporation (CNSC), which today (16 September) unveiled two stores at Fuzhou Changle International Airport Terminal 2.

Developed through a partnership with Xiangye Group, the project across departures and arrivals stores is guided by the evocatively-titled concept ‘Fuzhou charm, a new chapter in duty free’.

‘Fuzhou charm, a new chapter in duty free’ sets the tone for the new stores, with jasmine motifs and Fuzhou-inspired design elements creating a strong sense of local identity

It brings together Min capital cultural heritage, Fu culture and city symbols such as jasmine flowers to establish a modern airport retail environment where culture and commerce converge – advancing Fuzhou’s goal of becoming a regional shopping hub.

Spanning a combined 831sq m, the two stores operate across two core formats – liquor & tobacco alongside a comprehensive fragrance & cosmetics boutique.

Beauty forms a core part of the offer, with an assortment spanning well-known global brands across skincare, fragrance and cosmetics

The outlets offer a broad duty-free assortment, including international beauty and fragrance products, imported and exported tobacco and liquor, and branded eyewear.

The outbound store is located in the international departures quarantine area, while the inbound store is at the arrivals baggage claim hall.

Creating a distinctive retail experience through local culture

Drawing on Fuzhou’s cultural heritage, the T2 inbound and outbound duty-free stores integrate jasmine and ‘Blessed Fuzhou’ motifs into their upgraded retail environments. The visual design extends across light boxes, walls, soft furnishings and photo installations, blending local references with a contemporary retail setting.

The offer extends beyond traditional duty-free categories to include Fuzhou specialities such as its heritage jasmine tea. This forms part of a broader ‘duty-free + health + local specialities’ concept designed to create a distinctive Fuzhou Airport retail offering and bring the city’s culture to the international traveller.

Opening promotions to drive spend

Both T2 shops are running exclusive opening promotions to enhance the traveller experience, with up to -40% off storewide, fixed pricing on selected items, spend-and-gift offers, limited-edition gift boxes and multi-point member rewards redeemable on-site.

The openings at Fuzhou Airport marks CNSC’s strategic step to strengthen its travel retail footprint across Southeast China and pilot an integrated ‘duty-free + health + local culture’ format.

Building on Fuzhou’s role as a Maritime Silk Road hub, the project aims to broaden the airport retail offer, capture more passenger spending and strengthen the city’s status as an international gateway.

This newly-crafted space built around ‘Fuzhou charm’ will go a long way to supporting the achievement of  those lofty ambitions.
