Accolade Wines is supporting World Duty Free’s Wine Festival 2013 with a series of store tastings and promotional displays in a number of airports, including London Heathrow.
The two-month promotion sees Accolade Wines products occupying prime sites that are normally only awarded to spirits or Champagne houses, according to the company.
The Heathrow Terminal 1 promotion features three brands from the Accolade Wines portfolio: Hardys, Flagstone and Geyser Peak. From the lead brand, Hardys, are William Hardy Shiraz and William Hardy Chardonnay, which are supported by Flagstone Noon Gun and Flagstone Longitude, as well as Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot from Geyser Peak’s Varietals series.

The promotional display also includes a Hardys globe glorifier depicting the journey that Accolade Wines founder Thomas Hardy took in 1853 from England to Australia where he set up the company. The bottle on display features fifth generation Hardys winemaker William (Bill) Hardy, whose winemaking style fuses Old and New World influences – a result of his winemaking training at the University of Bordeaux and his experience in the family’s Tintara Cellars in South Australia.
According to feedback from World Duty Free, the Accolade Wines stand is “far more impactful” than most of the displays that the retailer has had in the past at the Terminal 1 site, said Accolade Wines Commercial Director Travel Retail Rupert Firbank. This underlines the company’s aim to “bring wine to life in travel retail”, he added.
A similar promotion will be launched later this month in London Gatwick Airport.
Also included in the Wine Festival from Accolade’s portfolio are Flagstone Writer’s Block Pinotage, Flagstone Music Room Cabernet Sauvignon and Ravenswood Teldeschi Zinfandel, a single vineyard wine from the leading Californian Zinfandel producer.
