THAILAND. The eighth ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, hosted by Airports of Thailand, opened in Phuket yesterday, beginning a series of discussions around the theme ‘Sustainable Airport Business – Expanding Aviation Beyond Boundaries’.
Organised by ACI Asia-Pacific, the four-day event has attracted over 400 delegates from the aviation industry from 33 countries. Around 30 speakers will present on the following issues:
• Airport’s role in advancing tourism and economic development;
• Environmental sustainability – Airport development beyond the bottom line;
• Driving organizational culture for airport business success;
• Airport operations – Planning for the future.
Welcoming delegates yesterday, ACI Asia-Pacific President Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid said: “Asia Pacific is anticipated to be the largest aviation market and with growing traffic, there are a lot of challenges for airport operators in the region to tackle.
“ACI, as the only worldwide association of the airports, will continue its effort in advancing the interests of airports and together with other stakeholders, will aim to provide the travelling public with an air transport system that is safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible.”
Asian Development Bank Vice President Xiaoyu Zhao will deliver the keynote speech at the conference, which is being officiated by Airports of Thailand Chairman of Board of Directors Squadron Leader Sita Divari, ACI World Director General Angela Gittens, ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Director Patti Chau, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad Managing Director and ACI Asia-Pacific President Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid.
