SPAIN. Spanish airports operator Aena has launched a €404.3 million tender for its ‘Barrier-Free’ Assistance Service for People with Reduced Mobility (PRM) across 20 airports, covering a three-year term with an option to extend for a further two years.
Aena said the new tender aims to maintain high service standards, ensuring accessible, end-to-end assistance across the airport journey, from check-in and security to boarding, arrivals and transfers.
The tender, approved by Aena’s Board of Directors on 27 March, is structured into five lots, led by Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (Lot 1).
Other groupings include key gateways such as Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport and Palma de Mallorca Airport, alongside regional and island airports across the network.

Aena said it will apply a competitive dialogue procedure, designed to encourage participation and incorporate bidder input to create a balanced and commercially viable process.
Interested parties will have 20 calendar days from publication in the Official Journal of the European Union to submit applications.
A further 20-day window will follow for initial bids, after which Aena will enter a competitive dialogue phase with selected bidders. This stage will focus on service quality indicators, equipment renewal, technological evolution and operational improvements.
Final offers must be submitted within 15 calendar days of the dialogue’s conclusion.
High-performing service
The PRM Barrier-Free service is currently the highest-rated offering across Aena’s airport network, achieving a passenger satisfaction score of 4.94 out of 5 in regular surveys, alongside multiple national and international awards.
In 2025, the service assisted 2.68 million passengers.
The airports operator noted it continues to collaborate with the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities to adapt the service to passenger needs.
The PRM service is provided free of charge to passengers with reduced mobility due to physical or mental disability, age or other conditions requiring assistance. ✈
