Aéroports de Paris unveils new €94 million Terminal 2G at Paris Charles de Gaulle – 10/09/08

FRANCE. Paris airports group Aéroports de Paris yesterday opened the new Terminal 2G at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, a new facility serving Air France-KLM and its regional subsidiaries.

The terminal was inaugurated by Aéroports de Paris (AdP) Chairman and CEO Pierre Graff and Air France-KLM Chairman and CEO Jean-Cyril Spinetta.

The move to open the new €94 million terminal came because Air France wanted to house its regional carriers – Brit Air, City Jet and Régional – in a single location, and increase handling capacity to support the growth in Schengen traffic.

As reported, 2G features a 300sq m multi-category retail store from SDA, the joint venture between Aelia Group and AdP.

Pierre Graff said: “With this new investment, Aéroports de Paris offers an efficient tool for handling short and medium haul traffic to and from French and European destinations at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Thanks to exemplary cooperation between Aéroports de Paris and Air France-KLM, Paris-Charles de Gaulle benefits today from a major competitive asset to support the growth of Schengen traffic and reinforce the hub’s position as a benchmark airport in Europe.”

“Air France’s regional operations are one of the key factors in the airline’s hub strategy”, added Jean-Cyril Spinetta. “Thanks to a well-organised hub, our customers benefit from a wide choice of services between French and European destinations and the rest of the world.

“Moreover, by serving Paris-CDG, we are able to offer connections between French and European destinations and the particularly buoyant Northern Paris area. In this context, the inauguration of Terminal 2G provides an opportunity to reinforce Air France’s strategic positioning.”

Aside from the SDA retail store the commercial offer includes a 200sq m Bert’s restaurant featuring three themes: club sofas and seats in a cosy setting, restaurant tables for dining and bar stools for a quick snack. It is said to offer quality fast-food menus specially created by a nutritionist. There is also a 120sq m press store.

Other services include a work area, a free Playstation gaming area and a relaxation area. PC power outlets have been installed at each row of seats, enabling passengers to recharge their electronic devices. There are 153 AEO screens (AdP’s internal video channel), flight information screens, three nurseries, two automatic cash dispensers and a smoking area.

Terminal 2G can accommodate up to 3 million passengers a year and 18 aircraft per hour.
