Aldeasa to partner with Portuguese airport operator

SPAIN. Powerful Spanish travel retailer Aldeasa has struck an agreement with Portuguese airport operator Aeroportos de Portugal to develop retail and catering space in Porto, Faro, Lisbon and Madeira airports.

The two companies will form a venture to develop and manage shopping and catering space in these locations. Aldeasa won the deal in a hotly-contested bid, in which 20 companies submitted their respected offers.

In a statement, Aldeasa said the project will be developed for at least the next seven years through a joint venture called ANA Retalho, in which the Portuguese airports authority will have a majority stake.

Both ANA and Aldeasa expect sales from from the venture to “more than double” over the seven-year period. Aldeasa already runs specialist shops in Porto, Faro, Lisbon and Madeira airports.

The company’s main activities are located in mainland Spain with well over 100 stores and over 50 outlets in foreign markets such as Portugal, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Jordan, Mexico, Venezuela, Morocco and Mexico.
