IRELAND/ASIA. Pernod Ricard yesterday confirmed the appointment of Alexandre (Alex) Ricard as Chairman and CEO of Irish Distillers, its Irish subsidiary.

Ricard, 36, moves from his role in Hong Kong as Pernod Ricard Asia Duty Free Managing Director. He is the nephew of Patrick Ricard, the French drinks giant’s Chairman and CEO.

Alex Ricard takes over the Dublin-based role from Paul Duffy, who is assuming the post of Chairman and CEO of Pernod Ricard USA.

Both appointments take effect on 1 July. Alex Ricard is succeeded at Pernod Asia Duty Free by Thibault de Poutier, formerly Commercial Director of the group’s Martell Mumm Perrier-Jouët luxury division.

Irish Distillers’ biggest international brand is Irish whiskey Jameson. The company owns five of Ireland’s top ten spirits brands – Jameson, Powers Gold Label, Paddy, Huzzar and Cork Dry Gin.

Alex Ricard joined Pernod Ricard in 2003 as an Audit and Business Development Manager and later spent time in Ireland as Finance and Administration Director of Irish Distillers. He assumed his Asia duty free role in late 2006.

He is well regarded in Asia Pacific travel retail circles where his commitment to the business, passion for innovation and affable personality have won him widespread respect and popularity.

He told The Moodie Report at the weekend that he was looking forward to the challenge of building Jameson internationally as well as the whole Irish Distillers business.

The two moves are part of a wider management restructure at Pernod Ricard. We’ll bring you further details soon.
