Amsterdam Airport opens new Babycare Lounge – 26/07/07

NETHERLANDS. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Nutricia have renovated and re-opened the airport’s Babycare Lounge, located on the Holland Boulevard behind passport control.

Recognising that flying with children can be difficult, the 90sq m lounge has been designed especially for the smallest of travellers – and their long-suffering parents. It is claimed to provide a peaceful and pleasant environment where families can stay until their flight departs.

First class care, rest, attention and well-being are central to the Lounge, which is said to contain all the facilities parents need to look after their baby in comfort.

These include seven cubicles that each contain a little baby bed, flanked by comfortable seating so parents can rest as well. Other amenities are baby baths, baby changing tables, microwaves and a selection of projections to stimulate babies’ senses, or calm them down.

The lounge design was developed by Dutch architect Marjolein Vreeburg of MV Architects. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol chose Nutricia as its partner for the project because of the latter’s babycare heritage.

The Schiphol Babycare Lounge by Nutricia is a free service. Opening times are 6am to 10pm.

Tips and advice about travelling with young children can be found at www.schiphol.nl. Parents with questions or problems can also call Nutricia’s child nutrition service (Kindervoedingservice) seven days a week, 24 hours a day, on tel: 0800 0222626.
