UK. Andy Lane has been named Director of Travel Retail at fast-growing independent drinks house Ian Macleod Distillers.
In recent months Lane, an experienced and well-regarded executive in the duty free and travel retail channel, has been consulting for the company, whose portfolio includes Glengoyne single malt whisky, blended whiskies Langs, Isle of Skye and Hedges & Butler, Wincarnis tonic wine (highly popular in certain duty free markets such as Singapore and Malaysia) and London Hill dry gin.
Ian Macleod Distillers is also a major supplier to the Buyer’s Own Brand market and has supplied own-label spirits to some of Europe’s largest supermarket groups for over 40 years.
Before joining Ian Macleod Distillers, Lane was Director Travel Retail at Whyte & Mackay.
Ian Macleod Distillers has decided to focus much more ambitiously on travel retail, an ambition underlined by the launch of two channel exclusives at last month’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

Glengoyne Burnfoot evokes the heritage of the distillery (it was originally called Burnfoot) with a modern twist. Smokehead Extra Rare builds on the recent success off Smokehead Islay single malt and features spectacular packaging including a metallic silver tin with gun-metal foiled letterpress imaging.
“Having bought Glengoyne [in 2003] and with Smokehead selling well, we thought we should look at duty free much more seriously,” Russell told The Moodie Report. “Independent distillers such as have a good opportunity in the malt sector as consumers want to collect and they want to try something new.”
