Areas opens second Chilean fast-food restaurant Dominó at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport

CHILE. Global travel restaurateur Areas has partnered with leading Chilean fast-food restaurant brand Dominó to open a second franchised location at Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport.

At 715sq m, the International Terminal landside space is approaching three times the size of the existing Dominó restaurant (255sq m), which opened nine months ago in the National (domestic) Terminal.

The second Areas Dominó franchise at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport now occupies a prominent space in the landside food & beverage offer

Dominó – a 70-year-old brand with 36 restaurants in downtown locations across Chile – specialises in food typically found at fuente de sodas, a traditional fast-food restaurant found in Chile.

One of the menu staples is completos, a traditional American hot dog variation popular in Chile, served with ingredients such as chopped tomatoes, avocados, mayonnaise, sauerkraut, salsa, ají pepper and green sauce.

The completo is a popular fast food in Chile and forms a key part of the Dominó menu

The 150-cover fast-food restaurant serves 16 variations of completos, ranging from the classic completo italiano (tomato, avocado and mayo) to the turco (egg and cheese).

The dining venue also has a wide variety of meal choices, Chilean-style sandwiches, empanadas and salads.

Areas is currently rolling out an extensive food & beverage programme at Arturo Merino Benítez Airport which will see it open 15 F&B venues by December 2025.

Aside from Dominó, these will include Chilean brands Emporio La Rosa, Fuente Chilena, Le Fournil and Las Cabras; international brands Carls Jr, Eric Kayser, La Cabrera Al Paso and Bonafide; and proprietary brands Deli&Cia, Farine, Loyola and Anka.

Speaking to The Moodie Davitt Report about the new opening, Areas Chile Country Manager Óscar Cocera noted that his company is the very first to be entrusted with a franchise contract by Dominó.

He said: “It is important for us to bring an iconic brand of Chilean gastronomy to Terminal Nacional. The completo is a symbol of our idiosyncrasy, a classic that evokes flavours and childhood memories. An icon of the cultural and social identity of our country. Now, all Chilean men and women arriving at the domestic flight terminal will be able to enjoy the national flavour.” ‍
