Open for business: ATÜ Duty Free management and partners inaugurate the store |
GEORGIA. ATÜ Duty Free has opened its new 148sq m duty free store at Kutaisi David Agmashenebeli International Airport. As previously reported, this is the Turkey-based travel retailer’s third airport operation in Georgia; the others are in Tbilisi and Batumi. It also operates a diplomatic duty free store in Batumi.
An official opening ceremony took place at Kutaisi Airport today, 17 January. It was attended by Mayor of Kutaisi Shota Murghulia, United Airports of Georgia Director Kate Aleksidze, plus state, civil aviation and air navigation authorities, as well ATÜ Duty Free management, Georgian media and other guests.
Construction of the new store started on 20 December 2013 and took less than a month, said the retailer. The new duty free store features over 700 products and includes leading international brands, Georgian wines and Turkish specialities.

ATÜ Duty Free was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between TAV Airports Holding and Unifree Duty Free, in which Gebr Heinemann is principal shareholder. It operates over 15,000sq m of retail space at 66 stores across eleven airports. Its Georgian business started in 2006, when ATÜ Duty Free opened its first stores at Tbilisi and Batumi airports.
In 2012, its Wines of Georgia speciality store at Tbilisi Airport won a Golden Brands Award for the company’s promotion of Georgian wines.
