NEW ZEALAND. Auckland Airport enjoyed a significant boost in arrivals from China in December 2005, offset by declines from other Asian countries.
Arrivals from China during the month climbed by +13.0% to reach 10,605 passengers. That figure compares with arrivals from Singapore down -10.0% (4,408 passengers) and Japan dipping by -7.3% to 9,223. But traffic from South Korea edged up +1.3% to 7,786 passengers.
Another high point for the airport in December was its US visitor numbers, up strongly at +9.6% (20,246 passengers) compared with the prior-year period.
European arrivals fell from the UK, down -3.5% to 35,973, and Germany, falling -2.8% to 5,634 passengers.
Total international passenger movements (excluding transits and transfers) inched up +1.3% compared with December last year to reach 587,537.
Growth in international passengers for the six months to 31 December 2005 stood at +2.0%, or 3,141,270.
