Autogrill strengthens food & beverage portfolio with first railway units in major Prague station – 24/06/09

CZECH REPUBLIC. Autogrill has opened its first four railway food & beverage units in the Czech Republic in the renovated Prague Central, the country’s biggest railway station.

The four outlets, which opened today, cover about 600sq m and house international brands such as Burger King and Brioche Doreé Café. It will open three more units there by the end of 2010, and the seven points of sale are expected to generate accumulated revenues of around €70 million over the 18-year contract.

The Prague Central station renovation project will create a new 16,000sq m shopping area capable of attracting large numbers of people in addition to passengers in transit, said Autogrill.

Autogrill has introduced house F&B concepts such as Pic-nic and well established local brands, including Czech brewer Potrefená husa.

Prague Central is the country’s biggest railway station and has been operated since 2003 by Grandi Stazioni (Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato). Around 35 million commuters a year pass through, representing approximately 60% of traffic – a figure which is expected to grow in coming years.

The new operation strengthens the group’s presence in the Czech Republic, where it has operated eight food & beverage units on the country’s two main motorway corridors (the D1 Prague – Brno and the D5 linking Prague to Nürnberg across the Czech-German border at Rozvadov) since 2007. The group’s other operations in Central Europe are in Germany, Slovenia and Poland.
