Award-winning Golden Kaan makes premium debut – 12/09/05

GERMANY. South African wine brand Golden Kaan, created and marketed by Germany’s Racke and KWV, is using this year’s TFWA World Exhibition to introduce its recently launched ranges to duty free and travel retail buyers (Red Village H4) .

Besides the Golden Kaan range, major focus will be given to the new edition of the Golden Kaan Winemaker’s Reserve Range, an ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, and the Golden Kaan Reserve Selection, three grape varietals for sophisticated drinkers.

The Golden Kaan range spans classic retail, premium gastronomy and ultra-premium excellence. With its full-bodied, fruity wines and its sophisticated concept, Golden Kaan is said to represent a brand that clearly communicates South Africa and has a high recognition level on the shelf.

Since its launch in 2003, more than 500,000 nine-litre standard cases have been sold and listings in more than 20 countries have been achieved.

Award-winning wine and design

The Golden Kaan brand has picked up a number of international awards, including the Belgian Monde Selection 2005. At the San Francisco Wine Competition 2005, America’s largest and most prestigious wine challenge, Golden Kaan Chardonnay 2004 was honoured with Silver and Golden Kaan Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 with Bronze. At this year’s VINITALY the Golden Kaan range was given the Diploma di Gran Menzione.

At the International Wine Challenge Russia, Golden Kaan Winemaker’s Reserve Chardonnay was awarded with bronze for its fruity bouquet and its buttery and nutty aromas. Golden Kaan Winemaker’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon received Merit.

In spring 2005 the German magazine SELECTION again rated Golden Kaan among its top wines. Golden Kaan Winemaker’s Reserve Chardonnay gained four out of five stars during the renowned German wine challenge.

Golden Kaan has also won awards for its packaging and has been nominated for the German Government Design Award 2006. This honour follows the Design Award Rheinland Pfalz which was given by federal German state of Rhine Palatine. In this competition 115 design projects were judged and Golden Kaan was rated as an outstanding contribution to the German economy. The nomination is a special honour as only the best packaging concepts or designed objects are considered; wine has so far not yet been represented among the selected nominees.
