The high-profile ‘Ace Rafa’ promotion at Dubai Duty Free |
Romanian man Ionut “˜Johnny’ Simionescu was named as the winner of the Bacardi-led “˜Ace Rafa’ promotion at Dubai Duty Free, and won the chance to travel to Mallorca to meet tennis champion Rafael Nadal. Nadal is Bacardi Limited’s Global Social Responsibility Ambassador.
Simionescu won the trip by taking part in a virtual reality game, called “˜Ace Rafa’, at Dubai Airport. He successfully “˜aced’ Nadal in the virtual game and went into a draw to meet Nadal.
The promotion followed the February 2012 launch of Bacardi’s social responsibility campaign – “˜Champions Drink Responsibly’ – which was hosted for the first time in travel retail.

Simionescu and 20 other worldwide winners had a personal coaching from Nadal, and had the chance to play with the RoboServ 3000, a 12-foot tall tennis-serving robot, and to “˜ace’ former tennis world number one Carlos Moyá in a game.
“It was an amazing weekend and I enjoyed welcoming the winners to Mallorca,” said Rafa Nadal. “They had their chance to try to “˜Ace’ Carlos using the RoboServ 3000, which was a pretty daunting prospect. I’m happy that so many people enjoyed the Ace Rafa game online and that through the Bacardi Limited “˜Champions Drink Responsibly’ campaign we are able to communicate the importance of drinking responsibly to a global audience. It is an important campaign to me, and I hope I can put across the message that drinking is good in moderation.”
Vinay Golikeri, Marketing Director for Bacardi Global Travel Retail, added, “We are constantly exploring new, innovative ways to spread our social responsibility message in a way that engages with consumers. The Ace Rafa promotion at Dubai Duty Free was a great success and was a particular hit with tennis fans as it was timed to coincide with the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.”
