Bahrain Duty Free strikes agreement for additional luxury space

BAHRAIN. Bahrain Duty Free has struck an agreement with Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) for additional retail space at Bahrain International Airport (BIA).

The agreement also gives the retailer access to a further 2,500sq m of warehouse space at the airport’s cargo village. This will allow for ease of operations and more efficiency, Bahrain Duty Free said. Bahrain Duty Free will move its refrigerated storage area to this warehouse, as well as building a new facility with landside and airside access.

The signing ceremony took place at the Bahrain International Airshow 2022, where both BAC and Bahrain Duty Free were Gold Sponsors. The agreement was signed by BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah and Bahrain Duty Free Board Director and CEO, Bassam Al Wardi. In attendance was the Minister of Industry and Commerce and Gulf Air Group Chairman, His Excellency Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani.

Al Wardi said: “We are once again honoured to further strengthen our partnership with BAC. This agreement for new space will enhance our capacity and infrastructure to accommodate future growth and meet the demands of international travellers.

“Bahrain Duty Free is at the heart of global travel retail in the MENA region, and the new space we now have access to will further solidify our commitment to elevating the airport shopping experience in the Kingdom of Bahrain onto the world stage.

“We are looking forward to a prosperous future in partnership with BAC whose support will enable us to make our own processes and operations more efficient moving forwards,” he added.

Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah said: “One of BAC’s most important goals is to deliver a memorable travel experience. From day one, we have aspired for BIA to be much more than just a waiting area for the next flight. BIA’s extensive selection of commercial offerings, which include a diverse range of retail and dining options, ensure passengers enjoy their time rather than counting the minutes to departure. Our growing partnership with BDFC will further enhance BIA’s offerings and its reputation as a leading shopping destination.”

Bahrain Duty Free said it has seen “a significant surge in sales” and the number of travellers passing through its stores in the past year.
