GERMANY. Berlin’s second largest airport Schonefeld has become the fastest growing airport in Germany, as passenger traffic looks set to double from last year.
Last year, some 1.7 million passengers used the airport, but this year, the figure is expected to hit 3.5 million, thanks to the growth of no-frills airlines.
A Berlin Flughafen spokesman said that the company is expecting record results after welcoming 15.4 million passengers at its three airports – Schonefeld, Tegel and Tempelhof – this year.
The company projects that some 17.4 million passengers will use the three airports next year.
