The super-premium gin will be launched at Gebr Heinemann stores |
Premium gin brand Bombay Sapphire is launching its new super premium product Star of Bombay in global travel retail this month, starting at Heinemann stores in Sydney Airport.
Produced in small quantities at the new Bombay Sapphire distillery in Hampshire, England, the new gin contains the ten original botanicals of all Bombay Sapphire gins. It also features two additional botanicals – dried bergamot orange peel from Calabria in Southern Italy and ambrette seed from Ecuador.
Bombay Sapphire Master of Botanicals Ivano Tonutti said: “The idea with Star of Bombay was to create a gin with an increased perception of the Bombay top-note aromatics. We vapour infuse our botanicals. Painstaking flavour trials had to be made to achieve the precise quantities and qualities that could interact with all the other botanicals and integrate into the heart of the gin. It is this perfect balance that we aim for.”
Star of Bombay undergoes a slowed distillation process and has a bottling strength of 47.5% abv. The bottle is taller, slimmer and has a slight taper, along with concentric facets. It is available in a one-litre bottle for A$66 (US$50.50)
Bacardi Global Travel Retail Managing Director Mike Birch said: “Gin is one of the “˜hottest’ categories in travel retail, however there is a large opportunity to further premiumise it.
“Star of Bombay is a stunning innovation, a beautiful enhancement of the iconic Bombay Sapphire bottle, making it perfect for gifting and attracting new consumers into gin. Travel retail is leading the launch of Star of Bombay including a first-launch with Heinemann across their iconic locations like the newly-won Sydney Airport, Frankfurt and Copenhagen, before rolling out globally.”
