US. The bookstore giant Borders opened a megastore for books and magazines last week in Boston Logan International airport’s terminal E, part of a major expansion in airports this year.
The 1,246sq ft (116sq m) store in the BAA-operated terminal E features bestsellers and key titles for leisure and business travellers, with a total of more than 6,000 book titles and more than 600 magazine and newspaper titles in an award-winning retail format.
The Boston store is the third Borders airport store to open in 2003 as part of a three to five store expansion planned for the current year. Borders has already opened a total of four airport stores in Newark, Cincinnati and Orlando.
“We’re pleased travellers have embraced the Borders concept in this new format,” said Tami Heim, president of Borders stores and Borders online. “Easy-to-shop layouts and efficient and friendly customer service cater to the fast-paced shopping patterns of travellers while maintaining the same inviting atmosphere that our superstores are known for. We hope more airports will be interested in exploring what Borders has to offer travellers.”
Airport Revenue News awarded the Borders’ airport stores the 2003 “Best New Specialty Retail Concept” earlier this year.
