Bowmore Islay Single Malt Whisky is launching a new premium range exclusively in travel retail and duty free outlets worldwide.
Available from this month, the range of single malt whiskies includes three expressions: Black Rock, Gold Reef and White Sands 17 Year Old. The range pays homage to Bowmore’s previous series of collectable whiskies – Bowmore Black, Bowmore Gold and Bowmore White.
The channel has proven a pivotal route to market for Bowmore, with European travel retail accounting for 85% of global travel retail sales in Europe. To highlight the launch Bowmore will roll out a series of tastings with Black Rock and Gold Reef at selected airports throughout 2014.
Travellers will also be given personalised “Taste of Islay” postcards with information on the range as well as the history and heritage of the Bowmore brand.

Morrison Bowmore Distillers Global Sales & Marketing Director David Wilson said: “We are delighted to present this new range of luxurious single malts, exclusively to travel retail and duty free. Matured in the finest oak casks, these whiskies have been hand selected for their unique character, allowing us to bring Islay to life for the discerning traveller around the world.”
Black Rock is described as a rich, single malt and is named after the jagged outcrop visible from the distillery, which is situated on the shores of Loch Indaal. The spirit is matured in first-fill, ex-Spanish sherry casks to give it a balanced flavour of peat smoke, treacle toffee and orange.
Gold Reef is matured in first-fill, ex-bourbon casks, which gives it deep golden hues and flavours of vanilla, citrus fruits and coconut.
Inspired by the beaches of The Big Strand and Laggan Bay, which are just south of the Bowmore Distillery, White Sands 17 Year Old has, as the name suggests, been matured for 17 years in Bowmore’s No.1 Vaults – said to be the oldest maturation warehouses in Scotland. The end result are notes of rich and ripe exotic fruits blended with malty sweetness and warm peat smoke.
Recommended retail prices are as follows: Bowmore Black Rock: £44.99, 1 litre, 40% ABV; Bowmore Gold Reef: £59.99, 1 litre, 43% ABV; Bowmore White Sands: £79.99, 70cl, 43% ABV.
