Chanel captures the spirit of St. Moritz in new Les Eaux fragrance

Chanel has unveiled Paris–St. Moritz, the first winter-inspired fragrance in the Les Eaux de Chanel collection. It is now available in global travel retail.

The fragrance builds on Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s connection with St. Moritz, where she enjoyed winter sports from the late 1920s. Chanel’s approach to alpine dressing also serves as the inspiration for the scent.

Paris–St. Moritz translates these influences into a warm, enveloping fragrance, adding a winter dimension to the destination-inspired Les Eaux de Chanel collection.

Commenting on the scent, Chanel Perfume Creator Oliver Polge said: “When I create a fragrance for the Eaux De Chanel collection, I am always looking for correspondences. Not a postcard, not an exercise in style, but a genuine question addressed to a place: What does it hold that is truly unique?

Alpine inspiration: Paris–St. Moritz brings together pear, rose and a musky-amber accord in the first winter-inspired fragrance from Les Eaux de Chanel

“Gabrielle Chanel on the slopes, surrounded by her circle of friends. Days in the snow stretching late into the evenings in hotel salons.

“For her, St. Moritz represented a form of inner elevation. Life, stripped of the superfluous,” he added. “Very quickly, I wanted to respond to winter with this warmth – intimate and convivial. Not to reproduce what a place smells like, but what it awakens.

“When it’s cold, we long to be warmed. I was searching for an enveloping, comforting sensation, yet one without heaviness. Something soft, cocooning. A sense of familiarity – that very simple feeling one experiences sometimes when wearing a beloved garment.”

This idea comes to life through three main notes: pear, rose and a musky-amber accord.

Polge explained: “The pear notes bring a green, juicy freshness. The rose, crafted with fresh nuances, reveals spicy, mineral, sometimes abstract facets. The musky-amber notes, round and enveloping, finally settle the warmth of the fragrance on the skin. Three notes, three elements in conversation with each other.”

Paris–St. Moritz is the latest fragrance in the Les Eaux de Chanel range. Launched in 2018, Les Eaux de Chanel is a collection of fresh, luminous fragrances inspired by eaux de Cologne and destinations that shaped Gabrielle Chanel’s life. The range includes Paris–Biarritz, Paris–Deauville, Paris–Venice, Paris–Riviera, Paris–Edinburgh and Paris–Paris. ✈
