Changi extends free Internet access – 23/07/04

SINGAPORE. Singapore Changi Airport has boosted its free Internet access, with 200 terminals now available throughout the departure/transit lounges and most gatehold rooms of terminals one and two.

This the largest number of free Internet terminals available in any airport worldwide, according to the airport authority. On average, they are attracting more than 3,000 users daily.

Changi also offers almost airport-wide wireless broadband coverage, due to its “hot-spot” status. This means that travellers can use their own wireless-enabled laptops or PDAs anywhere within the facility, including the gatehold rooms and retail and food & beverage outlets.

While Internet access at the airport’s 200 designated PC terminals is free, the usual Internet connection charges levied by the various Internet Service Providers apply with regard to wireless broadband connection.

Other Internet facilities available at Changi Airport include Ethernet LAN, and dial-up facilities.

“Changi Airport helps [travellers] stay connected in more ways than one,” commented Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore Director-General of Civil Aviation Wong Woon Liong. “Since the Internet is now a way of life for many people, the”¦broadband Internet access terminals at Changi Airport is the latest initiative to meet the increasingly sophisticated needs of travellers and to enhance their “˜Changi Experience’.”
