CHINA. Tomorrow, 3 July, is an auspicious occasion for China’s airport and travel retail sectors as the new 96,000sq m international terminal opens at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport.

The ambitious commercial line-up includes two upscale retail offers run by China Duty Free Group (CDFG) in the international and domestic lounges, respectively.

CDFG told The Moodie Report that the high-end stores fill a gap in the airport’s retail portfolio. “˜CDF China Duty Free’ – the core retail brand – covers nearly 2,000sq m.

The design reflects the “˜beauty of arc’ of the south of the Yangtze River in terms of layout. It also integrates an orderly passenger flow to create a luxurious and convenient shopping space for travelling consumers.

The offer brings together famous fragrance and cosmetic brands such as Lancôme, Chanel, Dior and Shiseido; and top fashion, jewellery, watch, liquor, tobacco and confectionary labels, including Burberry, Ferragamo, Bally, Montblanc, Swarovski, Tumi, Rado, Longines and Tissot.

CDFG has also focused on fine local product stores featuring Hangzhou specialities such as its world-famous silk and tea.

CDFG said: “With the world’s top brands, dazzling goods, multilingual guide services and attractive retail prices, the new duty free shop will offer a beautiful sight within the airport’s new international lounge. At the same time it will make up for the deficiency of the airport’s duty free services over the years.”

While successfully creating a high-end commercial retail zone in the new international lounge, CDFG has also introduced luxury shopping to the airport’s domestic area.

Covering nearly 1,000sq m, CDFG’s “˜L’île du Luxe’ store boasts a powerful array of top fragrance & cosmetic brands such as Lancôme, Helena Rubinstein and Biotherm.

It also includes premium and luxury fashion stores such as Samsonite, Lacoste, Disney and China Gold. “Henceforth, passengers will access world-class shopping services at the airport without having to go abroad,” CDFG noted.

CDFG President Lu Lu said: “As one of the major airports in East China, ranked among the top ten in passenger throughput, the potential of the airport in the luxury retail market has drawn great attention from CDFG.

“The co-operation with the airport, which is a great milestone, represents the first time that CDFG has exclusively leased all international lounge business areas covering duty free, local products and catering.

“It is also a bold attempt to carry out full co-operation with the airport in terms of high-end commercial retail within both the international lounge and the domestic one. CDFG will continue to integrate its resources and increase operational levels in an effort to build Hangzhou Airport into a world-famous first-class business place.”
