QATAR. Qatar Duty Free’s Chinese Pavilion at Hamad International Airport (HIA), created to celebrate Chinese New Year, was officially opened today by Chinese Ambassador to Qatar His Excellency Gao Youzhen. He was welcomed by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive His Excellency Akbar Al Baker and Qatar Duty Free Senior Vice President Keith Hunter.

UnionPay International Middle East General Manager Mr. Han Wang, who also attended the opening ceremony, is supporting the promotion by offering a QR100 (US$27) Qatar Duty Free gift voucher to consumers who make a purchase of QR1,000 (US$274) or more at the airport using a UnionPay payment card.
Located behind the giant teddy bear structure in HIA’s departures hall, the specially built 180sq m pavilion offers a variety of activities which will run until 28 February. Staff will also be dressed in traditional costume for the duration of the festival.
Al Baker said: “We are delighted to officially open Qatar Duty Free’s Chinese Pavilion at Hamad International Airport today. This is the first year we have celebrated Chinese New Year at our new state-of-the-art airport, and I am proud of what we have achieved with this luxurious area, promoted to create a wide range of gifts for the holidays in China.”
Hunter added: “We are honoured to see His Excellency Mr Gao Youzhen here today for the opening of our Chinese Pavilion. China is an extremely important market for Qatar Duty Free and every year we try to go the extra mile by providing even more exciting promotions and activities for our Chinese customers.”
