Chivas Regal 25yo was inspired by the first ever Chivas Regal whisky released in 1909 – it was a 25yo blend and said to be the world’s first luxury Scotch |
FRANCE. Two of Pernod Ricard Travel Retail’s blended whiskies have received awards from whisky connoisseur Jim Murray in the 2009 Whisky Bible Awards.
Chivas Regal 25yo has been named Scotch Blended Whisky of the Year (over 12 years) and Ballantine’s Finest has been named Scotch Standard Blended Whisky of the Year.
Chivas Regal 25yo was first unveiled in international airports around the world kicking off on 29 September 2007 at New York JFK. This luxury blend was inspired by the first ever Chivas Regal whisky released in 1909 – it was a 25yo blend and said to be the world’s first luxury Scotch.
The travel retail launches were designed to embrace the brand’s Scottish heritage, demonstrating its global presence with a unique worldwide launch.
Produced in limited quantities by Master Blender Colin Scott, Chivas Regal 25yo is a blend of the finest whiskies, aged for a minimum of 25 years. Each bottle is individually numbered. In his latest Whisky Bible, Murray describes Chivas Regal 25yo as “unadulterated class, where the grain-malt balance is exemplary and the deft intertwining of well-mannered oak and elegant barley leaves you demanding another glass”. Chivas Regal is the number three spirit in travel retail, according to Pernod Ricard Travel Retail.
Ballantine’s Finest contains more than 40 different malts from the four renowned whisky regions of Scotland |
Ballantine’s Finest contains more than 40 different malts from the four renowned whisky regions of Scotland – Islay, Highlands, Speyside and Lowlands. Its signature style is a balance of soft and sweet, due to the key malts Glenburgie and Miltonduff. As a standard blend Murray describes it as “a major work of art” and adds that only by taking a mouthful can you “experience the work of a blender very much at the top of his game”. Ballantine’s is the leading super-premium whisky in travel retail with Ballantine’s Finest as its leading brand in the portfolio, according to Pernod Ricard Travel Retail.
Pernod Ricard Travel Retail Europe Head of Marketing John Smailes commented: “Pernod Ricard Travel Retail is incredibly proud of these fantastic accolades from the Whisky Bible Awards. We hope that these new credentials will reinforce the brands’ premium qualities and their leading positions in the travel retail sector.”
Chivas Regal 25yo and Ballantine’s Finest were chosen from 3,850 whiskies, the tasting notes for which are all contained in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2009.
