Coty Lancaster: “As little as US$65 is enough to type a potential donor.” |
USA. Coty Lancaster will contribute US$150,000 to leukaemia charity DKMS this Christmas.
New York-based DKMS is the world’s largest non-profit stem cell donor centre which helps patients of leukaemia to find their match.
“During this season of giving, we hope that you will consider making a donation,” the company said. “As little as US$65 is enough to type a potential donor. That’s a life-changing difference for patients, worldwide – and a beautiful holiday for all.”
DKMS was chosen as Coty’s cause-related partner because leukaemia has touched the lives of many of its employees, including Coty Chairman Peter Harf. Harf lost his wife Mechtild to the disease after an unsuccessful stem cell transplant.
Together with his daughter, DKMS Americas CEO Katarina Harf, (Peter) Harf recruits bone marrow donors around the world. In 2005 alone DKMS successfully recruited 120,000 donors.
MORE ABOUT DKMS
Peter Harf and his wife’s physician, Professor Gerhard Ehninger, founded DKMS (Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei, or German Bone Marrow Donor Center) in 1991 when they were looking for a matching donor for Mechtild Harf, who died from acute leukaemia.
Harf and Ehninger created DKMS to help more patients in need find their donor match. Since its inception DKMS has facilitated more than 9,000 transplants and become the world’s largest non-profit stem cell donor centre, with more than 1.4 million donors.
