Daniel Pomies joins Duty Free Americas from Neutral to drive ambitious new Uruguayan venture – 24/06/08

URUGUAY/US. UETA/Duty Free Americas (DFA) today announced the appointment of one of South America’s most respected and experienced industry executives, Daniel Pomies, to the position of General Manager of UETA/DFA’s new Uruguay Division.

Pomies has been involved in the duty free industry for more than 20 years. He was instrumental in the development of duty free shopping along Uruguay’s borders and in its airports. He joins UETA/DFA after more than 15 years as General Manager for Neutral, a company that he helped to transform into one of the leading duty free retailers in Uruguay and South America,

UETA/DFA recently formed the Uruguay Division for the purpose of undertaking a highly ambitious retail project that will span several Uruguayan cities bordering with Brazil.

The group is investing more than US$20 million in this key project, which involves land acquisitions, as well as the construction of warehouse facilities and six upscale duty free shops that will carry the world’s leading luxury branded goods. The shops are scheduled to open in 2008 and 2009.

Daniel is intimately familiar with the duty free market along the border between Uruguay and Brazil, and he brings with him leadership skills, extensive retail knowledge and extraordinary experience in this field.
