Davidoff Cigars launches Christmas and Chinese New Year collections

Davidoff Cigars is looking ahead to the festive season with new gift collections for Christmas and the Chinese Year of the Sheep.

For the year-end holiday season, Davidoff Cigars is offering an eclectic collection of Davidoff assortments that have been created to cater to various blend, taste experience and format preferences.

Wrapped in an elegant holiday sleeve, the Davidoff Gift Collection 2014 includes seven different assortments of fine Davidoff cigars:
• Davidoff Assortment of nine cigars
• Davidoff Robusto Collection of five cigars
• Davidoff Puro d’Oro Collection of four cigars
• Davidoff Millennium Blend Assortment of four cigars
• Davidoff Tubos Assortment of three cigars
• Davidoff Short Pleasures Assortment of four cigars
• Davidoff Inspirational Robusto Assortment of three cigars

These limited edition collections will be available at Davidoff appointed merchants and dépositaires worldwide from this month.

To mark the Chinese Year of the Sheep in 2015, Davidoff Cigars will be introducing a highly exclusive, limited-edition Piramide cigar in a bespoke wooden cigar box.

The inspiration for this exclusive edition was the Chinese zodiac sign of the sheep. “Belonging to the element of wood, the Sheep is a craftsman, an artist, a devotee of beauty, fashioning a world of harmony and aesthetic pleasure. The Sheep will also look on approvingly as people welcome in the New Year. For in the Sheep’s eyes, happiness is other people’s happiness. The Sheep loves to see their own love of life reflected in the faces of those around them as well as the objects and things which surround them,” the company described.

Oettinger Davidoff AG Senior Vice President Marketing and Innovation Charles Awad said: “The zodiac sign of the Sheep has many common values with Davidoff. The appreciation for craftsmanship and the sense of refinement and style which brings joy to others are at the heart of everything Davidoff believes in. In keeping with this belief, these exclusive cigars have been lovingly crafted using the rarest and most precious ingredient – time.”

The Piramide, according to Davidoff, is regarded by connoisseurs as the most refined of cigar shapes. The Year of the Sheep Piramide cigar, which features a longer head than the usual Piramide format, is held together by an Ecuadorian shiny/dark oil wrapper and a red and gold second ring displaying the image of the sheep. Eight handmade cigars are presented in a bespoke wooden box shaped and designed to reflect the aesthetic ornamentation of Chinese wooden architecture.

Davidoff suggests enjoying this cigar slowly – “the smaller the cut, the more intense the flavours”, while a wider opening reduces intensity. As soon as the cigar touches the flame, complex and intense flavours of oak and toast are present, followed by milk coffee notes. Although the filler is composed of only Visus tobaccos the strength of the cigar is “rather medium and well balanced”. In the second third, flavours of chilli, dark chocolate and black coffee paired with a creamy aftertaste stimulate the palate. In the last third, the roasted flavours are still present, and develop with “a slight and pleasant bitterness for an unforgettable finish”, the company described.

The Davidoff Year of the Sheep 2015 Limited Edition comes with accessories including an ashtray, prestige lighters and custom-made scissors.

Only 7,000 of these Davidoff Year of the Sheep 2015 Limited Edition boxes will be available to cigar aficionados at appointed merchants in the US, starting 15 November, and at dépositaires worldwide from 8 December.

These new products were presented at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes last month, where Davidoff – along with Fauchon, Flor de Caña and Neuhaus – hosted a Master’s Evening at the Plage du Festival on the Croisette.

About 300 guests enjoyed pralines and chocolates, foie gras based appetisers and main courses, rum cocktails, and the Davidoff Nicaragua line with the newly launched Nicaragua Diadema cigar.
