MACAU, CHINA. DFS Group this week opened DFS Macau, M8, the travel retailer’s ninth downtown store in the Special Administrative Region.

M8, soft opened on 10 September, is an expansive shopping, dining and cultural centre located at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Macau.

A former dormitory for Macau Post Office employees, the redeveloped M8 draws inspiration from Macau’s historical culture. The project has earned several international accolades, including a Gold Award for Best Retail Development (Asia) at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards.

Its façade features the world’s first ultra-large curved translucent stone-laminated glass composed of approximately 1mm thick natural stone laminated between four layers of glass setting a Guinness World Record.

M8 has been developed jointly by the Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau and state-owned China State Construction.

DFS Macau, M8 abuts eight world heritage cultural sites, offering what the travel retailer called indulgent lifestyle shopping that meets Macau’s unique cultural flair.

The store offers more than 120 brands across fashion & accessories, watches & jewellery, beauty & fragrances, food & gifts, and more.

Notably, it features ‘Explore DISTRICT by DFS’, described as DFS’s first store-in-a-store lifestyle concept, featuring a selection of curated collectibles, gadgets and gifts.

DFS Macau, M8, the site’s retail anchor store, occupies the first two floors. The second and third floors feature an international fashion brand collective store called The Fashion Square; a European travel boutique collective store Euro Galleria by Oliver; and the first Macau branch of the restaurant Terrace in seaside from Incheon, Korea.

Floors four and five will be focused on quality dining brands, including Mango Tree from Thailand and Modern Shanghai Imperial from Hong Kong, both opening in October.

The fourth-floor rooftop garden and signature terrace provide captivating views of Macau’s streets and will feature a variety of activities and cultural celebrations. M8 intends to create a series of cultural retail and art exhibitions on the B2 and B3 levels, aiming to establish the building as a new cultural highland in Macau.

M8 Project Director Sophia Loi stated, “We are thrilled to announce the official launch of M8. This project represents more than just a construction development; it signifies our commitment to integrating Macau’s rich history with modern culture.

“M8 blends historical charm with contemporary design, preserving Macau’s unique heritage while incorporating innovative design elements and sustainable development.

“We are confident that M8 will emerge as a new cultural landmark in Macau, providing residents and visitors with a vibrant and captivating space. Our aim is to redefine the urban landscape through M8, creating a multi-functional environment that harmonises historical and modern elements.

“We anticipate M8 becoming a symbol of urban renewal in Macau, reflecting our passion for architectural artistry and vision to the revitalisation of the city’s old districts.” ✈
