Dôme Café opens in Darwin Airport as terminal expansion progresses

AUSTRALIA. Darwin International Airport has welcomed the opening of Dôme Café, the fourth outlet to open as part of the Terminal Expansion Project’s retail upgrades.

Featuring floor-to-ceiling airside views and the café’s signature domed ceilings and leather armchairs, the restaurant seats 170 and is open 24 hours a day. There are currently more than 100 Dôme outlets operating in six countries.

NT Airports Director Commercial and Aviation Development Jim Parashos said the opening of Dôme is an exciting step in the development of the terminal.

“We’ve been working with our food & beverage partner Delaware North to ensure what’s on offer at Darwin Airport is diverse and suits a varied passenger mix,” he commented.

“With our terminal operating 24 hours a day, Dôme meets the needs of travellers at all meal times, with the option for those who want to sit down for a meal, meet up with family for a coffee or do some plane spotting while enjoying a cool drink.

“The upgrades will continue throughout the year, with our news, gifts and specialty stores being redesigned and expanded by Australian Way, a convenience store opening on the ground floor and of course our new bar, which will have a distinctly top end feel.”

Dôme joins other new offers at Darwin Airport, including Giancarlo Café and Bar, Hungry Jack’s and Bumbu, a Southeast Asian offer which was developed in collaboration with celebrated Northern Territory restaurateur Jimmy Shu.

The Terminal Expansion Project began in May 2013, and is the biggest project undertaken by Darwin International Airport since the terminal was opened in 1991. The terminal area will grow from 16,000 to 27,000sq m and create room for a doubling of departure gates; a new domestic aerobridge, expanded baggage reclaims and security screening areas; a larger check-in area; and upgraded facilities for international travellers.
