INDIA. Duty free shops are to be opened at two Airport Express metro stations, according to the Hindustan Times.
The report said the stores [presumably pre-order -Ed] will be based at New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium stations.
The Moodie Report sought confirmation of the development from airport duty free retailer Delhi Duty Free Services. A senior executive expressed surprise at the announcement and said he was checking out the details. We’ll bring you more news as it comes to hand.
“These two metro stations will have duty free shops within a few months,” Reliance Infrastructure CEO and Director Lalit Jalan told the newspaper. Reliance, a giant of Indian infrastructure development, is the concessionaire for the new Airport Express which is due to commence operations soon.

“These duty free shops will be open in the next three-four months, as they get all the clearances. We do not plan a tender, but will negotiate with the parties concerned,” said Jalan.
The stations will also feature shopping arcades and food & beverage outlets.
The duty free shops will only be available in two stations, but a general retail offer will feature in all six stations.
“We have booked 20% space in each station for retail activities that will get us huge business,” Jalan told the newspaper.
