UK. Edinburgh Airport has unveiled a £500 million (US$667.6 million) five-year investment programme that will increase its terminal footprint by +60% and significantly expand its retail, food & beverage and other passenger facilities.
Described as the biggest single investment in Scottish aviation history, the Our Future programme represents the first phase of a wider long-term development plan for Scotland’s busiest airport.
Of particular significance to the travel retail and food & beverage sectors, the expansion will deliver new and improved shopping and dining areas, offering passengers greater choice as part of a wider transformation of the airport experience.

The plans also feature an expanded check-in hall and departure lounge to improve passenger flow, space and comfort, alongside new international arrivals facilities and upgraded baggage make-up and reclaim areas.
New gates and aircraft stands will support route growth and increased aircraft movements.
Works have already commenced, with the first-phase development scheduled to open fully in summer 2027.
In a post on LinkedIn, Edinburgh Airport Chief Commercial Officer Stephanie Wear underlined the implications for passengers and commercial partners, describing the project as creating “a bigger, brighter airport with more space, more choice and more opportunity for passengers, partners and the wider Scottish economy”.

She added that Our Future would “transform this airport for decades of sustainable growth to come”.
The investment is backed by airport shareholders VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners and is designed to reinforce Edinburgh’s position as an international connectivity hub.
The additional capacity is expected to support further long- and short-haul services linking Scotland with Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and other markets.
Edinburgh Airport Chief Executive Gordon Dewar said, “This is the biggest investment in Edinburgh Airport’s history and comes at one of the most exciting points in its development, adding another important chapter to its story.

“Our growth has cemented our position as Scotland’s busiest and best-connected airport, and we know the important role we play in supporting economic growth in Scotland and the UK.
“This investment will strengthen our international competitiveness by growing Scotland’s connectivity.”
Scotland First Minister John Swinney said, “This significant investment will enable Edinburgh Airport to compete with airports around the world.
“Alongside delivering real benefits to passengers, this boost will support Scotland’s international connections and help drive economic growth.”
For commercial partners, a +60% larger terminal footprint, increased capacity and expanded retail and F&B space represent a major opportunity to reshape Edinburgh Airport’s consumer offer and passenger experience.
Further details of the new retail and dining offer, including its composition and phasing, have yet to be announced. ✈
