MALAYSIA. In conjunction with the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan, Malaysia Airports (Niaga) Sdn Bhd, also known as Eraman Malaysia, this week launched the KLIA Ramadhan Fest 2005.

The big promotion is a collaboration with the local radio station Red104.9 which is the official partner at level five of the main terminal building at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The month-long festival was launched by Malaysia Airports Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris Othman. It runs until 31 October.

Eraman Malaysia is a passionate believer in championing “˜A Sense of Place’ – the nurturing and advancing of the country’s culture, traditions, tastes and crafts.

“This is the third consecutive year that Eraman Malaysia is organising this sales bazaar after receiving enormous favourable response from travellers and the many other airport users in the previous years. It is estimated that the number of visitors to this bazaar will increase to 100,000 this year as compared to 80,000 last year,” said Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris Othman.

The event was also attended by Eraman Malaysia CEO Syed Ahmad Syed Salim.

This year’s promotion features 32 booths selling an array of products ranging from apparel for men, women and children to perfumes, accessories, toys, home decorations and a selection of local delights such as dates, titbits, cookies and preserved fruits. Housing developers and banks are also participating in this campaign.

Visitors will also have a chance to witness mat and baskets weaving, songket weaving and batik painting. In addition, the demonstration of making “˜lemang’ a traditional Malay food comprising of sticky rice and coconut milk will also be showcased by the “˜orang asli’.

“Aside from providing a wide selection of products, the KLIA Ramadhan Fest 2005 also plays a significant role in showcasing our country’s rich cultural heritage to foreign travellers, ultimately putting KLIA in the world’s tourism map,” added Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris Othman.

During the event, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Aris Othman applauded the initiative undertaken by Eraman Malaysia to organise a blood donation drive campaign to render support and assistance to the country’s National Blood Centre which usually experiences a shortage of blood during the fasting month. This is the first time that Eraman Malaysia has included a blood donation drive element into the KLIA Ramadhan Fest.

Another initiative saw a special donation box unveiled during the event. Proceeds will be forwarded to two local orphanages. The charity box will be placed in front of the KLIA Shopping stage during the campaign period.

Background: Ramadhan is a month of fasting observed by Muslims all over the world. During this holy period, Muslims perform their obligatory abstinence from food and drink from dawn to dusk.

Eraman Malaysia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, has a retail presence at four international gateways: KLIA, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
