Eva Mendes, the new face of Thierry Mugler’s Angel |
INTERNATIONAL. Thierry Mugler Parfums has confirmed that actress Eva Mendes is to be the new face of its Angel feminine fragrance. “Strong one moment and demure the next, both femme fatale and spontaneous, Eva Mendes personifies the very facets of sensuality encompassing Angel,” noted the company in a statement.
While predecessor Naomi Watts’ ethereal beauty embodied the angelic aspect of the fragrance, Mugler has now chosen to reignite the “enticing and explosive” dimensions of the scent via the sultry Mendes.
Mendes is said to have impressed the designer with her independence, determination and humour. Her best-known film roles to date include Training Day, We Own the Night and Hitch. Her most recent film, Last Night, which also featured Guillaume Canet, Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington, was released in 2010.
Angel – Mugler’s first fragrance – was launched in 1992. The debut advertising campaign featured Estelle Lefébure perched atop a New York skyscraper, wearing a black suit and enveloped in a blue muslin scarf. She was followed by Jerry Hall, in 1995, who appeared clad in a silver gown on the dunes of White Sands National Park in New Mexico.
In 1998, Amy Wesson personified a crystal angel and its star-shaped bottle; next came Anna Maria Cseh’s night-time portrayal in 2003, followed by Bianca Balti in 2006, who was depicted as hypnotised by her own reflection.
In 2008, Naomi Watts appeared in a contemporary fairy tale role. A new advertising visual, featuring Mendes, will appear later this year.
