CAMBODIA. A new benchmark for automotive brand engagement in travel retail has been set at Techo International Airport with the opening of the Lexus Display Lounge, a concept that could redefine how premium brands across multiple categories activate within airports worldwide.
The installation in the main airside atrium at Cambodia’s newest airport, located 19km south of Phnom Penh, has been delivered through a Lexus Cambodia, Cambodia Airport Investment Co. and International Airport Advertising Cambodia (IAAC) collaboration.

The venture moves decisively beyond traditional display-led airport advertising towards a fully immersive brand experience.
IAAC, acting as the airport’s exclusive media partner, played a strategic role in shaping the concept and facilitating its execution, from initial value proposition through to securing a prime location.
The lounge itself – entirely designed and managed by Lexus and featuring the latest luxury cars from the marque – has been a year in the making.

IAAC CEO Jonathan Goldsmid spoke exclusively to The Moodie Davitt Report about the project and positioned the launch as a defining moment for major airports’ commercial evolution.
“The Lexus Display Lounge targets a critical yet often under-leveraged airport dynamic: extended dwell time among high-value international travellers,” he told us. “Rather than fleeting impressions, the concept is designed to foster meaningful engagement in a premium, hospitality-led setting.”
The result is an intimate, design-led space accommodating 15-20 guests, open daily from 6am to 10pm and fully staffed to deliver a seamless experience.

Access to the lounge is complimentary, with travellers invited to relax while enjoying refreshments including coffee, tea and a local touch – Cambodian Romdoul cookies.
According to Goldsmid, for Lexus, the activation creates alignment between product, lifestyle and audience, embedding the marque within a context of comfort, innovation and prestige.
He believes it introduces a scalable airport model with potentially far-reaching commercial implications.

Goldsmid said, “Lexus represents the calibre of brand we envisioned for Techo International Airport – one that reflects the premium nature of its audience and ambition.
“Since opening in September last year, the airport has quickly evolved into a platform where leading brands can elevate perception, command attention and align with a new standard of prestige.
“This collaboration sets the tone for a new era of high-impact, premium partnerships.”

Initially scheduled for a three-month run during the peak travel season, the Lexus lounge installation is already under consideration for extension, according to Goldsmid.
More significantly, the concept points to a broader shift in airport commercial strategy.
Goldsmid added, “Experiential lounges of this kind offer brands the opportunity to move beyond visibility into genuine consumer connection – transforming airports into environments where engagement, rather than exposure alone, drives value.”

Asked if he believes this form of brand engagement is likely to quickly become prevalent in major airports across the world, Goldsmid replied: “The model has global relevance: such activations can be adapted across international gateways where brand identity and passenger demographics align.
“At IAAC we are already exploring numerous similar initiatives across airports in Asia and Europe; we expect this Lexus venture at Techo International Airport to be a launchpad for a wider transformation in how brands inhabit travel spaces.” ✈
